They are colleagues - serving children who are homeless across Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. More often than not they are the sole staff member addressing the educational needs of the children residing in their facility. They are the ones who must cope with limited supplies and limited time. They are the staff members who may be the first to recognize the specific challenges "their" children are experiencing, the first to encourage children and give them hope for the future. They are the ones who can't be sure how many children they'll be serving on any given day in their learning center. They are the ones who explain to the mothers the importance of their engagement with their children's learning and advocacy for their educational rights.
HCEF is proud to be affiliated with these dedicated people and to encourage and support with annual mini-grants their own innovative learning programs. HCEF also makes possible the provision of school and art supplies, computers and associated electronic devices, subscriptions to on-line educational programs, occasional topical workshops, a listening ear, and opportunities to come together for conversation and fellowship.
