The Duquesne Light and Home and Garden Show selected the Homeless Children's Education Fund as the 2008 charitable organization for which donations were solicited and awareness raised throughout the 10 days of the show at the David Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh.

Duquesne Light volunteers built and displayed a fully equipped model of an HCEF Learning Center and Resource Library. Following the show the furniture, books, games, art supplies, and computers were installed at Sojourner House, becoming part of the 10th Learning Center HCEF has created over its nine years of service to Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. Funding for the centers is made possible by the individual donations of area residents.

Members of our Boards of Trustees and Advisors as well as staff members and volunteers were on hand at the Home and Garden Show to tell visitors about the work of HCEF, the need for greater awareness of homelessness in Allegheny County, and the impact homelessness has on children's day to day life as well as on their aspirations for the future.
