HCEF in the news! March 2009 –

Dr. Joseph F. Lagana, HCEF's founder, received the National Child Labor Committee's prestigious 2009 Lewis Hine Award for exceptional work on behalf of the health, education, and welfare of children and youth, particularly those at risk. Joe was one of five volunteers from across the country to receive this year's award. Five professionals also received the award. The award ceremony was held at the Hilton Hotel in New York City.

Lewis Hine, for whom the award was named, traveled across the country from 1908-1912, documenting with his camera the plight and exploitation of working children. The NCLC was organized in April 1904 and chartered by an Act of Congress in 1907. See also the HCEF press release.
