6.08 The Pittsburgh Athletic Association's 2008 "Hoops 4 Hope" raised over $9000 for the Homeless Children's Education Fund.

5.28.08 The Pittsburgh chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI) designated HCEF as the beneficiary of a portion of the proceeds raised at its annual meeting.

5.21.08 HCEF received a $3000 grant from the Seldon and Susan Whitaker Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation toward the installation of Learning Centers at Sojourner House and Sojourner MOMS.

5.18.08 The Spring Concert for Causes featured Kathy Soroka (soprano), Natasha Snitkovsky (piano), Louis Lev (violin), Peter Snitkovsky (violin), Marylene Gingray-Roy (viola,) and Michael Lipman (cello), who performed works for voice/piano and voice/string ensembles. This was the third and last of the 2007-08 series of in-home chamber music concerts benefiting HCEF. Warm thanks to these professional musicians, who donated their performance at these events.

Concerts for Causes' 6 chamber music concerts, 3 in the 2006-07 season and 3 in the 2007-08 season, raised over $14,000 in support of HCEF's shelter-based educational programming for children experiencing homelessness.

5.14.08 The WHO Foundation (Women Helping Others) awarded HCEF an Education and Literacy grant in the amount of $5,000 for the Building Blocks for Success program.

4.03.08 Read the Post-Gazette story of Bethel Park's Independence Middle School 7th graders' novel way of raising funds to benefit HCEF and learn more at "Winnie's All-Stars".


4.08 South Central Elementary School third graders (Canon-McMillan School District) conducted a 2-week-long before-and-after-school walkathon to benefit HCEF, collecting $2500 for their efforts.



3.20.08 The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review features HCEF and Sisters Place in a story about HCEF's Learning Centers and educational services to area shelters.

3.8.08 KDKA featured a conversation with Joe Lagana and Joseph Vallarian of Duquesne Light. See and hear it here.

3.7-16.08 Duquesne Light and the Home and Garden Show celebrated HCEF with a model of an HCEF Learning Center and Resource Library. The equipment seen in the model became the heart of a new Learning Center being established in an area shelter serving families with children. Duquesne Light also granted HCEF $10,000 toward the construction of the the Learning Center.
