June 4, 2008, Mini-grant Kick-off Event

For the seventh time shelter representatives joined with HCEF Board members and staff at the Spaghetti Warehouse for a time of celebration and the sharing of information

  • about what had been achieved through last year's Round VI Mini-grant awards,
  • about what worked particularly well in one shelter and could well be as successful in another – with or without modifications, and
  • about the ideas they were mulling over as they looked ahead to writing their proposals for Round VII of the Mini-grants for Educational Innovation.

Carlin (HCEF Education Specialist) and Bill (Chair of the HCEF Board of Trustees) welcomed all in attendance and set the stage for the morning's activities.

As always there was coffee, juice, and "2nd breakfast" treats from Priory Fine Pastries.

And, as always, the inimitable Myra, in her dual role as HCEF Board Vice Chair and Program Supervisor of Three Rivers Youth – The Hub, was an enthusiastic cheerleader for the past achievements and future potential of both the shelter staff members present and the programs they oversee. She also shared information about how she used her 2007-08 mini-grant.

The heart of every mini-grant kick-off is the opportunity to share experiences, pass on suggestions, and pick up new ideas .

The event concluded with the distribution of Educational Field Trip grants totaling $2700 to nine centers serving children. See the list of recipients on the main Shelter Services page. The amount available to each center was increased from $200 to $300 this year because of the increased cost of fuel.

Hail, hail!
